Got Questions?
Dear Barbara,
We were informed on Friday that we would not receive our class assignments for next year until June. Many of our teachers were upset by this information, especially since there is no guarantee (since we are going to traditional and we will be losing teachers) on where they might be. A-track seems to be affected the most by this also since they may have to come back on their off-track time to possibly pack up everything if asked to move to another site. Many of my teachers were asking if they can do this to us. It was also asked if there was a date that we had to know our assignment by (if that was anywhere in our contract)? Everyone understands that this is budget crisis year and that movements have to be made, but we also feel that they know the numbers now and should be able to give out assignments just like any other year. Amy

Amy, I have kind of been out of the loop, but I understand this is happening at all schools. A-track teachers may have to come in off track, but they would be able to put in time cards for their trouble. Assignments will depend on student numbers and the teachers needed to teach those children at each site. There is no definite date in the contract as to when assignments must be made, it is only a guideline, and because of the circumstances and changes this year we are all at loose ends. I hope we will have some additional information for you at our May 6 SJTA meeting.
